God's Enemy

Whenever we want to discuss anything about sin, one is naturally not interested.  For anyone that dare touch the word/topic “sin”, they say that:

1.) Sin is caused by ignorance, error (Lev. 22:14) or inattention or not taking heed.  Matt. 18:17
2.) Sin is characterized by impurity; transgression (i.e. going beyond the limits that have been set; lack of integrity Lev. 19:15; Rebellion, Ps. 73:8; rejecting the gospel; John 3:36.

-         Treachery (breach of trust), Num. 5:12, 27.  Maybe unfaithfulness to spouse

-         Perversion (to bend or twist)

-         Abomination (things that make God’s stomach turn).

-         Idolatry – Deut. 7:25-26; homosexuality – Lev. 18:22; 20:13.

-         Wearing clothing of opposite sex – Deut. 22:5

-         Sacrificing sons & daughters.  Deut. 12:31.

-         Witchcraft.  Deut. 18:9-12

Sin has results that affect our relationship with God, that affect us as sinners and that affect our relationship with other human.

Briefly, today we want to look at one of the effects of sin on our relationship with God.  The one we will examine is called diving disfavor.

Human beings’ relationship with God was good and cordial before sin came in and sin caused severe enmity between humans and God.  Hosea 9:15.  God’s reaction to our deeds indicate His unchanging nature.  He has indicated that He doesn’t tolerate certain things.  When we move into such action, me move into the territory of God’s disfavor.

Adam & Eve went off limit, they received disfavor.  By rebelling against God, humans break the good relationship with God.  As enmity against God had big consequence on Adam & Eve, so it is today that it brings calamity to people of today.

Whenever our good relationship with God is broken by sin, we are living under the wrath of God.  Ex. 32:10-11.  And the wrath of God can come forth as fire, which no one can quench.  Jer. 4:4

The Bible says to sin = making oneself an enemy of God.

I’m here to tell you today that God loves us and we should reciprocate His love by obeying Him and running away from sin.  Sin brings death – both physical and spiritual.

Yes God doesn’t hate us, but He is angered by our sins.  Some folks who cannot see that their relationship with God has already been damaged, they will be stunned when they get to heaven.  Rom. 2:5 says wrath is stored up for the Day of Judgment.

“God is allergic to sin”; sin destroys our relationship with God.

Come to the knowledge of Christ today.  While we were yet sinners, Christ had died for us.  Rom. 5:8-10.

Our natural self will not yield to God, but if we let Jesus in, His Holy Spirit can help us today to mend our relationship with God.  See Rom. 3:20-26.  We have all sinned.  Sinned might have broken our relationship with God, but if we accept Christ by faith, we will receive mercy.
