A Rich Wealthy Christian

Lesson:  Ps. 112:1-end

Text:  Ps. 112:3

I have always wondered if Christians ought to be rich.  Or maybe poverty is a prerequisite for heaven.  We’ve asked the questions about riches of Christians in various forms in our Wednesday Bible class a few months ago.

To answer weather or not we can/should be rich as a Christian, we first have to assume that we are Christians.  Let us limit our assumptions to the scope of Ps. 112 in our attempt to bring biblical understanding to this question about rich and poor.

Ps. 112:3, I first need to emphatically tell you that we can be rich as Christians.  It is part of the will of God that wealth and riches be in our houses.  Haven said that, let’s look at the passage in its context.  Remember:

  1. Observation

  2. Interpretation

  3. Application

Before I dump the will of God about riches upon you, I must tell you there are clauses surrounding the will.  Le us examine the Ps. 112.

If it’s okay for us be rich/wealthy, why is it that most of us are poor and lacking?

Today the word of God is calling us for re-examination of our lives to find out why our needs are not being met as pertaining to riches.

Prerequisites:

  1. Fear the Lord.  Ps. 112:2

  2. Delight in His commandments

  3. Don’t be slothful (work hard)

  4. Prayer (as Jacob did)

Remember Abraham, Isaac, Esther, Jacob, they all were wealthy and managed success well.

“Christians are not measuring up to God’s standard and they can’t totally go back to the world, so they become mediocre.”

Note:  God is able and willing to supply all our needs

Jms1: 17; Phil. 4:19; Prov. 10:3, 22; Eccl. 10:19; Matt. 6:30; Isa. 60:5, 11, Ps. 2:8, II Cor. 9:10-11

Once we establish that it is not against God’s will for you to be rich blessed and comfortable, I hereby encourage you to pursue your blessing with all rigor.

Whatever you do, do it with confidence, go for more education if you have to, train yourself and acquire necessary skills to help you at the job market.  Have confidence in your God and maintain your self-esteem.  Don’t think there is anything you can’t do.  Don’t let any position scare you.  Aspire to get to the highest spot in your office.  Desire excellence.  Be diligent in your business.  Prov. 22:29.  If you have to change jobs, do so.  If you have to start your own, go for it.  Don’t be afraid of trying any longer.  A double minded, low self-esteemed person wouldn’t make it.  James 1:8.  Follow the prerequisites, the Lord can enrich you.  Ps. 37:25.  God bless you.
